About Us

More Than Just a Martial Arts Club

A Wakefield community built on decades of coaching experience, genuine technical standards, and a room where everyone from a four-year-old to a Masters competitor is treated with the same respect.

Our Team

Meet the Coaches

Two coaches, one standard: precise technique taught with patience.

M

Marc

Head Coach — Judo & BJJ

  • 50+ years on the mat
  • EJU Level 4 Coach
  • UKBJJA accredited instructor

Marc has spent more than five decades in grappling, from competing in Judo to building coaching programmes across Yorkshire. His European Judo Union Level 4 qualification places him among the most highly credentialed coaches in the region — but what members notice first is how patiently he explains the same detail to a nervous beginner and a competition athlete alike.

E

Emma

Coach — Women's BJJ Programme

  • Active competitor
  • Leads the Women's Only sessions
  • Junior programme coach

Emma brings a live competitive record onto the mat every week, and channels it into a Women's BJJ programme that has become the fastest-growing part of the club. Her sessions are technical, honest about what works under pressure, and built to make first-time trainees feel like they belong from the opening warm-up.

Our Values

The principles behind every class

Both come from the founding philosophy of Judo, and both still decide how we coach today.

Jita-Kyoei

Mutual welfare and benefit

Nobody improves alone. Your training partner's progress is your progress — which is why we coach people to look after each other on the mat as carefully as they look after their own game.

Seiryoku-Zenyo

Maximum efficiency, minimum effort

Technique over strength, leverage over force. It's what lets a smaller person control a larger one, and it's the principle every class returns to, whatever the age group.

UKBJJA Silver Level Certified

Independently assessed on coaching standards, safeguarding and club governance — so parents know exactly what they are signing their children up to.

A competitive edge, if you want it

We support members onto the competition circuit with dedicated prep — and equally support those who never want to compete at all.
